Gudetama Cafe

Something that is Japan Dake (only) is character themed cafes. There is a larger variety of character cafes, such as: Sailor Moon, One Piece, Alice in Wonderland, Gudetama...ect.

Gudetama is a character from the Sanrio company...and he is a lazy egg. He is the definition of someone who has no motivation to do absolutely anything and just melts onto the floor. Gudetama's name comes from a play on words of gude gude ( no energy or strength ) and tamago (egg). Hence, lazy egg.

In Shijo Kawaramachi there is currently a Gudetama themed cafe thanks to the collaboration with Maccha House.

I went to the adorable cafe with my friend Chelsea ( Gaijin in Japan ) and we went during not "lunch time" time and we waited in line for over an hour! Once we finally made into the shop we paid for the meal we wanted ( just like any cafe) and headed upstairs to take a seat.

The cafe is tiny, it had a capacity of about 20 people max, but there were usually 8-10 at a time. The cafe was decked out with Gudetama's face plastered over...pretty much everything. The lanterns, the walls, the food, the tables.


I ordered an ice matcha latte and a baked chicken and egg bowl (it had rice underneath). The latte was amazing, the whipped cream was the thickest and smoothest whipped cream I have ever had in my life! And the matcha drizzle? I cried from happiness. Also the Gudetama theme in this drink was  the marshmallow that was sporting Gudetama's butt!

The meal itself was very mediocre, but I was hungry during that time that it tasted like heaven had just dropped the most delicious eggs and chicken in the world into my bowl. When in reality it was just a bowl of rice with chicken and scrambled egg...that costed be about 11 USD. Pretty pricey if you ask me.


Chelsea and I then split a matcha partfait which had matcha (obviously) and various traditional Kyoto sweets, like ankan ( sweet red beans ), green tea ice cream, and green tea jellys.
The cafe is open till May 8th! So if you are in Kyoto during before then make sure to stop by the Gudetama x Maccha House in order to experience some Gudetama cuteness, even if it is to just drink a latter with a friend~

I started this story expecting a time traveling Sherlock Holmes because I associate Doctor Who with time travel for some reason. Big whoops. When it is said the Doctor Who meets Sherlock it actually a man with Sherlock's intellectual mind but with the 10/11th Doctor's personality. Also, this Sherlock/Doctor infusion has a companion.
While time travel is no where near involved in this story, it is heavy on the whole supernatural aspect. Ghosts, trolls, witches, werewolves...you name it. So, the lack of time travel makes up with a big shigban of supernatural.
The story is told through Abigail Rook, a young girl who ran away from the high lady life for an adventure (and dinosaurs). She arrives to the Fiddlehamn, New England and immediately searches for a job. In her quest to find a job to keep her alive in the world she comes across a "Assistant Wanted" sign and immediately rushes to apply for the job. There she meets R. F. Jackaby.
Right off the bat the adventure starts. Abigail joins Jackaby on a mysterious murder case...a supernatural murder case.
Even though the story was a quick and fun one, I did not grow attached to any characters. The story was plot driven 100%, and while this is not necessarily a bad thing I still feel like I barely know Jackaby or Abigail. We got snips of information here and there, but not enough for me to have the feels and claim these characters as my children. (I still really enjoyed them though!)
The pacing is too quick, there was hardly any breathing room. I can't believe I am going to say this...but I wish the story would have slowed down. 30 pages in we are already in the case, and I was left like "Whoa what, slow down book."
I guess it is okay, because this a mystery novel and Ritter wanted us in the case as quickly as possible...there was a killer on the loose and we had to catch him/her.
As someone who is detailed oriented, I was fascinated by the amount of description the book held. It was not J.K Rowling or Erin Morgernstern detailed heavy, but Ritter gives you enough detail to let you know who the killer is half way through the book (only if you are paying, close attention...which I did not). But I guess since this is a Sherlock/Doctor Who like book that amount of detail is necessary.


“Maybe if you would bother reading a book once in a while instead of hurling them about every chance you get, you would have put the pieces together yourself by now”


Even though I did enjoy the adventure I was put in, it was not enough for me to go back and re-live it again. I will continue on with the series, but it will not be a set of books that I will re-read again anytime soon.
If you are up for a mystery supernatural adventure with a really fast pacing I suggest for you to pick up Jackaby solve the case of the supernatural killer.

Introverted and in a New Place

I am what you call an introvert. For those who don't know an introvert is "a shy, reticent person" by textbook definition. There may moments that I feel adventurous or daring, but 75% it is an actual effort than a natural feeling. I tell myself that I am shy because I'm not a people person. It's not that I am not a people person, it's that people terrify me. Strangers terrify me. If I am given the choice of staying in a quiet place or going to a wild party...well I think you know where I am going with this. 

I have recently moved to a new place, far, far, far away from the four wall establishment I call home. I know moving so far away is considered daring and adventurous, but in reality it is much more. It is a drastic change in your life, and well change is scary. 



Being in a new place, you are far away from everything you know. The streets are new, the people are new, daily life is new, everything is new! 

I always joke that I want to go on a big adventure like the all the stories I have ever read. So when an opportunity for an adventure opened up, I wiggled my arm out of my comfort bubble and grasped it tightly. And now...I'm on my adventure...but I am internally screaming.

I’ve trying to say yes to more things, but by saying yes I step further away from my comfort zone.
Baby steps though.

Everyday try something new, even if it is something small. It can be as small as trying a new flavor of a food you normally eat or as extreme as going to someplace new.



Sometimes it is our fears that hold us back. The idea of the unknown that is lingering out there. 

I’m in a new place, and alone. But I am trying to say yes to new experiences outside of my comfort zone.Being alone does not always mean being lonely, and that is what I am trying to achieve.


Because the world is beautiful and only those willing to take the necessary steps are able to truly see it.
