The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken

I am currently reading this spooky middle grade story of a 12-year-old Prosper Redding who's life pretty much sucks because his ancestors made a deal with a fiend and then pissed the fiend off. Even though it is a MG, it doesn't read like one. It is a lot like Harry Potter, a story for all ages.
Prosper is the only unexceptional Redding in his old and storied family history-that is, until he discovers the demon living inside him. Turns out Prosper's great-great-great-great-great-something grandfather made-and then broke-a contract with a malefactor, a demon who exchanges fortune for eternal servitude. And, weirdly enough, eight-hundred-year-old Alastor isn't exactly the forgiving type.

The fiend has reawakened with one purpose--to destroy the family whose success he ensured and who then betrayed him. With only days to break the curse and banish Alastor back to the demon realm, Prosper is playing unwilling host to the fiend, who delights in tormenting him with nasty insults and constant attempts to trick him into a contract. Yeah, Prosper will take his afterlife without a side of eternal servitude, thanks. But with the help of his long-lost uncle, Barnabas, and his daughter, Nell, a witch-in-training, it seems like Prosper has at least a fighting chance of ridding himself of Alastor before the demon escapes and wreaks havoc on his family.

Little does Prosper know, the malefactor's control over his body grows stronger with each passing night and there's a lot Alastor isn't telling his dim-witted (but admittedly strong-willed) human host.

Warcross by Marie Lu

I finished this book last week and holy stars it was so amazing. I honestly this feel like Warcross is the best book I have read this year. It is not a new concept, Warcross is a mix of Ready Player One and Sword Art Online, but it felt fresh.

Ms. Lu really makes you feel for the characters, especially Hideo Tanaka and Emika Chen. I actually understood their actions even when I did not agree with them. Aaaaah. I have too many thoughts and feels about this. Especially the last 70 or so pages. So intense. There was one thing I was suspicious about and then turned out to be correct...but I still have so many questions. READ IT.

Hooky by Miriam Bonastre Tur

I'm currently following this really cute webcomic on webtoons about two witchling twins. The art style is beyond adorable and the main characters, Dani and Dorian, are precious children. This story deals with self-worth, family, love, and figuring out that the world isn't black and white but various shades of gray.

Dani and Dorian have missed the bus of the school of magic. Now, they must find someone who teach them how to be a great and good witches... Or maybe not.

The Start Of Something New | Watcha Reading Wednesday




I'd decided to start a little trend in order to get me to blog and read more. I'm calling it Watcha Reading Wednesday (#wrw) where every week I will talk about the books, webcomics and interesting pieces I have read recently.

In the last week I have read a total of almost 3 books and several webtoons comic (that's have been updated for the week haha) and some blog posts.

I finished Cashed Out by Michael H. Rubin, it took me a while to read, but you can learn about it in my review about the book.

 One failed marriage. Two jobs lost. Three maxed out credit cards. "Schex" Schexnaydre was a failure as a lawyer. Until three weeks ago, he had no clients and no cash -- no clients except for infamous toxic waste entrepreneur G.G. Guidry, who's just been murdered, and no cash, except for the $4,452,737 Guidry had stashed with him for safekeeping.

When Schex's estranged ex-wife, Taylor, is accused of Guidry's murder, she pleads with Schex to defend her. He refuses, but the more he says no to Taylor, the deeper Schex gets dragged into the fall-out from Guidry's nefarious schemes, ending up as the target of all those vying to claim Guidry's millions for themselves

I read An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogern in two days! I haven't done that in a real long time...but the book was so magical. Look out for my review about it.

Now, I am currently reading Warcross by Marie Lu and I am enjoying it so far. I think I will finish this book in the next day or two if time permits.
